Course Comics and Graphic Novels
Production of a comic panel or the beginning of a graphic novel
Students will learn upon completion of the course:
Methodologies of creating a comic strip or graphic novel. Deciphering the different art styles in comics and graphic novels. The terminology used in comics by illustrators. Building the students creative cognitive functions such as brainstorming, writing and imagery. Production of the students own comic or panel.
Course will be critiqued for different ages and learning abilities.
Two or more semesters may be needed depending on your child’s creative process or if they want to make a graphic novel.

Course: Manga / Tankōbōn
Production of a Manga
Students will learn upon completion of the course:
Methodologies of creating a manga. Deciphering the different art styles in manga. Storytelling, sub types of manga characters and genres. Terminology of manga used by mangaka (Japanese illustrators). Building the students creative cognitive functions such as brainstorming, writing and imagery.
Course will be critiqued for different ages and learning abilities.
Two or more semesters may be needed depending on your child’s creative process for their final project. A one shot (chapter in manga terms) will be completed at the end of the course.

Course: Plein Air Studies
To create while seeking adventure. Plein air studies is a way for students to use the environment to replicate a piece. Students will interpret a particular scene with knowledge from the instructor such as informed decisions on perspectives, composition, values, color theory, tools and methods of measuring. Students will be instructed with techniques in watercoloring and sketching. This course is to continue the practice of basic techniques learned throughout the students art studies and to create an awareness of the colorful world around the student.

Students should be ready to travel. Parent waiver may need to be completed as a reminder this is a field trip course.
